Abstract
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) – is a type of neuromodulation, which is a treatment that alters the activity of nerves. Vagus nerve stimulation involves sending regular, mild pulses of electrical energy to your brainstem through your vagus nerve in your left ear to decelerate the “flight or fight” response resulting in regulating anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms.
Purpose
In cooperation with Neuvana Life, Grey Team is conducting an observational study to determine the effects of vagus nerve stimulation on military veterans who have been medically diagnosed or self-diagnosed with sleeping disorders, i.e., insomnia, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy, etc., anxiety, depression, and/or pain using the Nuevana Xen Vagal Nerve Stimulator.
Key Information
The entire study will last 8 weeks.
You may be able to participate in this study if you meet the following:
You are a U.S. military veteran.
You own a smart device (ie. iPhone, iPad, or Android device, etc…)
You have regular sleep problems that prevent you from getting quality sleep (falling asleep and staying asleep) and Moderate to high levels of stress or pain
Exclusion Criteria
You will not be able to participate in this study if you meet any of the following:
• You have an implanted cardiac pacemaker or defibrillator,
• You have a Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder, Bell’s Palsy, or Trigeminal Neuralgia,
• You have epilepsy or a history of seizures,
• You have a mental health condition that significantly impairs your daily life,
• You currently use BiPap or CPAP during sleep.
